If you are a member of the military who supports the withdrawal of troops . . .
An Appeal for Redress
from the War in Iraq

As a patriotic American proud to serve the nation in uniform, I respectfully urge my political leaders in Congress to support the prompt withdrawal of all American military forces and bases from Iraq . Staying in Iraq will not work and is not worth the price. It is time for U.S. troops to come home.

Welcome to the Harrison County DFA website!  HCDFA is a county group that works with Democracy For America and individual democratic and progressive groups. Please take some time to check out our website.  You will find political events in your area on our Events Calendar. Join us to receive email updates or participate as a volunteer. We look forward to endorsing socially progressive and fiscally responsible candidates, keeping you up to date on events in our nation, county and state, and increasing political participation and awareness in Harrison County, West Virginia.

MAYBE NOT THE PHOENIX, BUT . . .

Before the dust had even settled on the floor of the 2004 Democratic Election Headquarters, as it was being dismantled in Clarksburg WV, and the signs, pamphlets and other campaign materials were being packed away, a small group of dedicated volunteers who had worked long hours manning the phone banks, the visibility sites, and the neighborhood canvassing crews, met together to share their feelings of disappointment, disillusionment, and anger at the final outcome.

It was decided that instead of wallowing in the pain of the moment and then sitting back and waiting for another election year, we would not hand over our state to the Republicans so easily.  We knew that the strong emergence of the opposition did not just happen.  It came about through careful planning and a full "year around" effort on their part.

We began Harrison County Democracy for America (HCDFA)as a concerted and determined effort to work both with and beside other Democratic  organizations to provide the necessary dynamic force needed to regain and hold on to the political reins in West Virginia and change our "red" state status back to the "blue" that it should be.

And now HCDFA, which began in the dust and confusion of Election 2004, is fully operational and is busily girding loins, loading the catapults, and sharpening lances for the elections of 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2020, and beyond!  We invite you to become a part of this grassroots effort.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Harrison County Democracy For America is to enact positive change in the county's Democratic Party, to insure support of all true Democratic candidates, and to create a more positive and proactive organization to support Democratic goals and positions.  We intend to do this through active participation in the existing party structures, including the Executive Committee, Men's and Women's Clubs, and Young Democrats.  We want to reinvigorate these organizations with new positive energy and leadership. And help put a new face on the Democratic Party as we enter a new century and an evolving political climate.

"I, [name], do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God."

Worst

Worst President in U.S. History
"But somehow, in his first six years in office he has managed to combine the lapses of leadership, misguided policies and abuse of power of his failed predecessors. I think there is no alternative but to rank him as the worst president in U.S. history."  - -  Eric Foner

Several Presidents have done one or two of the items on the following list:, but which of them have done ALL of them?
* Started with a huge budget surplus and left office running gigantic deficits?
* Undermined American liberty, even to the point of disregarding habeas corpus?
* Explicitly specific laws that other Presidents have followed, such as FISA
* Grabbed unprecedented centralized power through signing statements and the legal philosophies of John Woo et al, at the expense of traditional American checks and balances
* Started a gigantic war BY CHOICE, utterly without planning for its aftermath?
* Lost that war, and most likely a second war (in Afghanistan) through pure negligence, as well?
* Spent years ignoring an environmental problem so large it represents a huge threat to national security (global warming), and at the same time working in all international forums to prevent others from acting?
* Transformed America from one of the most admired countries around the world to the most hated?
