Welcome to the North Central West Virginia Democracy for America's website! NCWVDFA is a county group that works with Democracy For America and individual democratic and progressive groups. Please take some time to check out our website. Join us to receive email updates or participate as a volunteer. We look forward to endorsing socially progressive and fiscally responsible candidates, keeping you up to date on events in our nation, county and state, and increasing political participation and awareness in north central West Virginia.
MAYBE NOT THE PHOENIX, BUT . . .
Before the dust had even settled on the floor of the 2004 Democratic Election Headquarters, as it was being dismantled in Clarksburg WV, and the signs, pamphlets and other campaign materials were being packed away, a small group of dedicated volunteers who had worked long hours manning the phone banks, the visibility sites, and the neighborhood canvassing crews, met together to share their feelings of disappointment, disillusionment, and anger at the final outcome.
It was decided that instead of wallowing in the pain of the moment and then sitting back and waiting for another election year, we would not hand over our state to the Republicans so easily. We knew that the strong emergence of the opposition did not just happen. It came about through careful planning and a full "year around" effort on their part.
What began as Harrison County Democracy for America (and has evolved to become NCWVDFA) as a concerted and determined effort to work both within and outside other Democratic organizations to provide the necessary dynamic force needed to regain and hold on to the political reins in West Virginia and change our "red" state status back to "blue".
And now NCWVDFA, which began in the dust and confusion of Election 2004, is fully operational and is busily girding loins, loading the catapults, and sharpening lances for the elections of 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2020, and beyond! We invite you to become a part of this grassroots effort.
Mission Statement
The mission of North Central WV Democracy for America (NCWVDFA) shall be to uphold and promote the democratic principles and ideals that are established by the Constitution of the United States of America.
In so doing, the organization will work toward more responsive local, state and national government by encouraging and promoting the accountability of all elected officials; by insisting that all elections be truly democratic, open and fair; and to work toward keeping the public informed about the issues and concerns that are being decided by our elected officials and legislative bodies.
In the pursuit of this mission, NCWVDFA shall make every effort to inform and educate the electorate about, but not limited to, the following issues and concerns: human rights and conditions; environmental protection and conservation; social justice and responsibility; foreign relations and world citizenship; and democracy and transparency in our government.
