As a patriotic American proud to serve the nation in uniform, I respectfully urge my political leaders in Congress to support the prompt withdrawal of all American military forces and bases from Iraq . Staying in Iraq will not work and is not worth the price. It is time for U.S. troops to come home.

Why do they call it the PUBLIC SERVICE Commission
when it continually services the utility companies?

American Electric Power says the $2.2 billion coal-fired plant it wants to build in Mason County represents "the cutting edge" of industry technology. However, the plant is missing a key element a growing number of experts say is needed: equipment to capture greenhouse gas emissions and pump them underground.
Late last week, the state Public Service Commission approved the AEP proposal. It is the single most expensive utility project in West Virginia history.
In an 85-page decision, the PSC gave the company a stream of cash - through customer rate hikes - to pay off debt incurred building the plant. Read the appalling story here.

Does a country of 303 million people really have only two families qualified to run the show?
Already, for 116 million Americans, there has never been a time when there wasn't a Bush or Clinton in the White House, either as president or vice-president. The dominance of the two families in U.S. presidential politics is unprecedented. (The closest comparisons are the father-son presidencies of John Adams and John Quincy Adams, whose single terms were separated by 24 years, and the presidencies of fifth cousins Theodore Roosevelt and Franklin Roosevelt, whose collective 20 years as president were separated by a quarter-century.)  More.

Is There Courage in This Generation?

I heard that statement this afternoon. But unfortunately it came from an old man remembering something he did a long time ago.
In fact I was listening to three old men: Daniel Ellsberg, Mike Gravel, and Robert West. Thirty-five years ago they came together to publish The Pentagon Papers and puncture the public's illusions about the Vietnam War.
To understand what The Pentagon Papers were, imagine that Donald Rumsfeld had the true and secret history of the Iraq War locked in safe somewhere. Imagine what would happen if somebody opened that safe.

HCDFA Hosts March for Peace August 31
March for Peace participants made their way across WV via US50 on the last leg of their journey from San Franciso to Washington, DC.  They arrived in Clarskburg around noon where they were welcomed by HCDFA members at Democratic headquarters. After lunch and a little time to rest they were back on the road to DC where they expect to arrive September 10. HCDFA considers itself fortunate to have been able to meet and talk with these patriots who have spent their summer walking across the US to raise public awareness. We are grateful for their inspiration and sacrifice.

Saddam Hussein.

Hussein Outlives Usefulness to US - Permanently Silenced by Hanging
Somewhere along the line, perhaps, people may come to pause and question whether putting that noose on Hussein was worth the three thousand American soldiers killed; the 47,000 American soldiers wounded; the untold thousands of Iraqi civilians killed; the fertile recruiting ground for terrorists born of the resulting rage from these deaths, and the trillions of tax dollars poured into the sand. Saddam Hussein was hanged on Saturday for all the acts beyond those described in the trial's final ruling, most of which were committed with the full knowledge and willing assistance of the American government - a government that propped up and sustained Hussein because he served as a useful idiot in our efforts against Iran. These facts will be buried with his body in an undisclosed location, and once again, the sand itself will swallow for eternity another glaring example of the awesome distance between words and deeds. Worst President in U.S. History

Several Presidents have done one or two of the items on the following list:, but which of them have done ALL of them?
* Started with a huge budget surplus and left office running gigantic deficits?
* Undermined American liberty, even to the point of disregarding habeas corpus?
* Explicitly specific laws that other Presidents have followed, such as FISA
* Grabbed unprecedented centralized power through signing statements and the legal philosophies of John Woo et al, at the expense of traditional American checks and balances
* Started a gigantic war BY CHOICE, utterly without planning for its aftermath?
* Lost that war, and most likely a second war (in Afghanistan) through pure negligence, as well?
* Spent years ignoring an environmental problem so large it represents a huge threat to national security (global warming), and at the same time working in all international forums to prevent others from acting?
* Transformed America from one of the most admired countries around the world to the most hated?
